Title: The Promise
Lyrics by: Samantha River (Jade)
Tune: "The Highwayman," Phil Ochs, original poem by Alfred Noyes
Date: 1993
Source:
Recorded on: "Music Celebrating the Goddess," Triple Crescent, 1994
Subject: Goddess

In a stone circle, underneath the sky
Women they would gather in the days gone by
They came to find the mother and to know her ways
To mark the cycles turning, honor the holy days
To learn of her wisdom, hear the words she'd say:

Chorus:	Oh, look for me by moonlight
	Watch for me by moonlight
And I'll come to thee by moonlight
	None may bar the way

In secret they'd assemble after passing the coin around
Under cover of darkness so they would not be found
Although there might be danger, still they'd heed the call
The midwives and the healers, proud witches one and all
The voice was like a whisper, carried on the breeze:

On the hill we gather when the moon is full and round
Like the ancient women we come to draw her down
We come to find the Mother and to know her ways
To mark the cycles turning, honor the holy days
The voice grows ever louder, her promise still remains:

Look for me by monlight, the time it is most clear
Watch for me by moonlight, surely you will hear
Watch for me by moonlight, you're sure to find the way...
